This past week students from Haldane and other school districts experienced a taste of real-time environmental monitoring at Beacon Institute’s REON Technology Expo. The Expo was held at the Institute’s Gallery in Beacon and led by Chief Research and Education Officer James Bonner, PhD. “Sensors are ubiquitous,” said Bonner, explaining that they are everywhere in modern life, and demonstrated how we all encounter sensors everyday in our cell phones, cars and even refrigerators. Excited students gathered in groups around three different hands-on water sensor stations developed by the REON research team from Clarkson University. The team includes Bill Kirkey, Chris Fuller, Russ Nelson, Shahidul Islam, and Chad Chianfrani, a physics and robotics teacher from Oakwood School.
