The Haldane Lady Blue Devils Varsity and Junior Varsity Girl’s Basketball teams sponsored “Get Into the Pink Zone” a Breast Cancer Awareness event, at the Jan. 31 home games against North Salem High School. In addition to winning both their games, the girls raised $461 by offering pink ribbons, donated by the McConville family, in exchange for donations. Contributions were also made by Under Armour and Anaconda Sports. The girls’ efforts were rewarded by the generosity of family and friends, attendees at the games, and the Haldane School administration. The money will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Kay Yow, who died from breast cancer two years ago, was head coach at North Carolina State University. Senior Erin Percacciolo prepared a presentation that was delivered at each half-time, educating all attendees on the facts about breast cancer, particularly as it affects women in Putnam County.
