Philipstown Resident Charged in Jewelry Theft

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a 22-year-old Philipstown woman on criminal charges of allegedly stealing jewelry from a private residence. According to the sheriff’s office, investigations revealed that the woman allegedly stole more than $3,000 worth of jewelry from a Lane Gate Road home, while working there as a babysitter. The sheriff’s office identified the arrested individual as Maren E. Geider. The sheriff said most of the jewelry was recovered after being sold to a Dutchess County jewelry store.
Geider surrendered herself to the sheriff’s office on Feb. 16, where she was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class “D” felony. Geider was arraigned before Philipstown Town Justice Stephen Tomann and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail, pending a court appearance. If convicted, Geider faces a prison term of up to seven years.
