Vincent Leibell

Former state senator sentenced to 21 months

Former State Sen. Vincent Leibell, whose district included Philipstown, received a sentence of 21 months in prison and three years probation from U.S. District Court Judge Warren Eginton in White Plains on Friday, May 13, according to published reports.  The sentencing comes after Leibell pleaded guilty last December to obstruction of justice and tax evasion following a federal investigation into a kick-back scheme involving non-profit organizations that received funding from the state through Leibell.
While under investigation last year, Leibell was elected Putnam County executive, but he never took office.  He served in the New York State Senate for 28 years.
