Rain or shine

That close-to-the-end of summer Philipstown ritual, the Garrison Art Center’s Fine Crafts Fair, returns to Garrison’s Landing on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 20 and 21.  From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine, fairgoers will be treated to a carefully selected group of 90 vendors and artisans, offering a selection of crafts and fine arts, many of which are hand-made.

Visitors can also  partake of a gourmet food court, along with the ever-popular, not so gourmet, but with their own merits, burgers and dogs; free river rides on the historic 47-foot Sloop Woody Guthrie; plus non-stop foot-tapping live music sponsored by The Garrison, Hudson Valley Magazine, M&T Bank and WHUD.  This year’s acoustic music series includes live performances by Philipstown locals Tiki Daddy as well as Baby Soda Jazz Band, Evanescent, and Muhamadou Salieu Suso.

This is the 42nd season for the fair and attendees can combine it with a visit to the nearby Desmond-Fish Library, which will be holding its annual Book Sale at the same time.  Parking is available at the adjacent Metro-North lot. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for train riders, seniors citizens and college students.  Kids 18 and younger are free with a parent.  For more information contact 845-42403960, [email protected]  or visit www.garrisonartcenter.org.
