Parents told of a possibly suspicious incident

Using their AlertNow Message system, the Haldane Central School District sent out the following email from Elementary/Middle School Principal Brent Harrington to parents on Wednesday morning:

Dear Families,

We are writing to inform you of an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon on the black bus run at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Beale and Barrett Pond Rd. in Cold Spring.  As a student exited the bus and passed a parked car, an individual from within the car made a gesture that was perceived by the student as a wave toward the car. At that point the child ran home and the family immediately notified the police and the school.  District administrators were immediately in contact with law enforcement and alerted bus drivers to the situation. We have continued to be in close communication with law enforcement today. Clearly we have taken this report seriously, but based upon their preliminary investigation there is no hard evidence to indicate that there was any intent to abduct or harm the child. We have been informed that there will be a police presence in this area today as a precaution.

If you have any information that you think would be of any assistance, please call the Sheriff’s department (845-225-4300) or the district office (845-265-9254).  If you have any other questions, please feel free to call.
