The big red barn at Glynwood

The second annual TEDxManhattan Changing the Way We Eat, an independently organized event, (licensed by TED) is being held in New York City on Saturday, Jan. 21. Glynwood is the lead sponsor of this one-day TEDx event that will explore the issues, the impacts and innovations happening in the world of food as we shift to a more sustainable way of eating and farming.

Glynwood is hosting an official viewing party that will broadcast the talks live.  Community residents are invited to drop in and out during the day to watch a live web cast of this event being held at Glynwood’s main house on Glynwood Road in Cold Spring; the doors will open at 9:30 a.m. (the program begins at 10:30).   Fresh Company, of Garrison, has donated soup and bread for lunch and viewers are encouraged to bring their own “brown bags” to supplement their meal.  Parking is available in the lot just past the office building at 362 Glynwood Road.   No formal registration is required.

The day includes a line-up of speakers from diverse areas of the sustainable food movement, including Fred Kirschenmann, Distinguished Fellow, Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture; 2011 Glynwood Harvest Award winner Gary Oppenheimer of AmpleHarvest.org; James Beard Foundation Vice-president Mitchell Davis, and Michelle Hughes, Director of GrowNYC’s New Farmer Development program.

About TEDx
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

About TED

TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
