Houses Needed for Cold Spring by Candlelight’s December Tour

Consider opening your doors to support PARC

Cold Spring by Candlelight, the annual fundraiser and holiday event in the Village of Cold Spring, is set for Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, and houses are needed to make this year’s 10th anniversary event memorable.

Cold Spring by Candlelight is a holiday house tour and shopping event that takes place throughout the village, creating an annual destination and promotion event for village shop and restaurant owners and raising needed funds for Partners with PARC, which supports programs and services for children and adults with developmental disabilities throughout Putnam County.

Cold Spring by Candlelight is a day and evening event featuring tours of unique and historic houses and buildings in the Village of Cold Spring and nearby Nelsonville. Cold Spring’s stores and shops will be open late for holiday shopping, and the village restaurants will be offering specials to event attendees. Expect carolers, visits from Old St. Nick, holiday storytelling and holiday music concerts during the event.

“Helping to raise money for others was a great way to start off the holiday season,” says Cathryn Fadde, who has opened her home on High Street for the tour in recent years. “I do it every two years and feel like I had a better Christmas the times I’ve opened my home to benefit Partners with PARC.”

Event planners currently have several houses and historic buildings signed up to be a part of this year’s event. More houses, however, are needed to complete the tour roster. Specifications for the houses are as follows:

Be located in the Village of Cold Spring or in close-by Nelsonville. Houses can be historic or unique and offer tour-goers beautiful architecture, creative renovations, attractive décor, etc.

Houses need to be open and available to receive event attendees from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012.

Houses need only have the first-floor rooms available for tours, but homeowners are welcome to have visitors tour their entire homes.

Houses need to be decorated for the holidays, in keeping with the holiday spirit and traditions that have made Cold Spring a historic destination for decades.

“House tours have long been successful fundraisers and promotion events for small towns and large cities around the country,” says Rand Bridget Otten, director of development for Partners with PARC and creator of this annual event. “We have hosted this event for 10 years and our tour attendees tell us that they look forward to seeing new houses each year. We have wonderful incentives for homeowners willing to participate and help us to raise funds for people in need.”

Partners with PARC volunteers will be on hand for the entire tour to assist homeowners and assist event attendees. And as an added incentive to the homeowners on this year’s tour, each homeowner will receive a certificate for a trip for four (two adults and two children under 12) to a choice of two resorts in Cancun, Mexico for a four-night/five-day stay (land only). The event will also have a “Best House” on the tour contest, as voted by the tour attendees, and the winner will receive a $500 cash prize.
