Theo Ganz Studio is pleased to present a solo exhibition of recent paintings by Tom Chibbaro plus one canvas from 1998, 73 Horses. The opening reception for the artist and his exhibition Recent Paintings + One will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. This new series includes over 20 paintings ranging in sizes up to 12 x 9 inches, all portraying nudes.

Chibbaro states, The figures in these paintings first came to me over half a century ago when I was 14. My mother gave me 50 cents to attend life drawing sessions after school … by now, painting the female body has become an homage. The form has become a hybrid, a cross-pollination of the many women (and cats) I’ve seen and painted in my life.”

Chibbaro is a graduate of the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City and has won many awards for his work. He has taught at Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts. He paints using a technique he has developed over the years working with egg tempera. “I paint slowly, every day; I seek accident, (and) look for the magic … I think it’s possible to see something new in the familiar,” Chibbaro said. “That beauty and humor are timeless. I hope to give pleasure and surprise to the viewer.”
