At their workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 17, Gillian Thorpe, president of the Haldane Board of Education, announced that the board has initiated its search for a new superintendent to replace Dr. Mark Villanti who will retire from the district in December 2013. Thorpe indicated that the Board of Education has retained the services of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates, a consulting firm specializing in assisting boards with superintendent candidate consideration.

A key step in this process is to identify characteristics that the Haldane Board of Education will be seeking in a new superintendent. Thorpe noted that the board would greatly appreciate input and assistance of community members with this important task.

An open forum, which will be facilitated by a member of the consultant firm, will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, in the Board Room of the Mabel Merritt Building, and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Music Room of the Haldane ES/MS Building. These are the same sessions scheduled during different time frames.

  1. There will be babysitting provided at the 7:30pm session, courtesy of the PTA. Please come out and share your thoughts with us!

  2. I would hope that we are looking to find a person who can fill the position. Maybe he or she could be a bit younger and have the necessary experience, minimal to say. This could be a good way to attract someone who may want to stay and grow with our community. This would also allow the district to take a break from paying top pay right out of the gate! Yes, we will miss Dr. Villanti and good luck to him.
