Mid Hudson Animal Aid (MHAA) finished second in the recent Ulster Savings Bank Mid-Hudson Heroes Charity Contest and was awarded a $1,500 donation. Ulster Savings hosted the contest through their Facebook page and encouraged fans to nominate and vote for their favorite charity. The contest was cross-posted through MHAA’s Facebook page, which spreads awareness about the shelter and its mission, and ultimately increased votes.

“The contest was a fun way of engaging with the community,” said Don Petruncola, MHAA President. “We are grateful for this award and all those that voted for us.” Mid Hudson Animal Aid, 54 Simmons Lane in Beacon, is a private, not-for-profit organization that runs a free-range, no-kill sanctuary for cats and kittens pending adoption, and currently houses approximately 125 feline residents. This donation will be used to help with veterinary costs for cats that come to the sanctuary injured or sick.

More than 21,400 votes were cast. The bank donated $3,000 to the first-place winner, Sparrow’s Nest in Hopewell Junction, and $500 to the third-place winner, the Shandaken Theatrical Society in Phoenicia.
