Prizes awarded for costumes in the Cold Spring GOBBLE!
The Cold Spring GOBBLE!, a Thanksgiving walk/run with frozen turkeys to benefit the Philipstown Food Pantry, takes place Saturday, Nov. 15, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Admission to GOBBLE! is a frozen turkey that participants bring along as they run/walk or stroll along a course through Cold Spring. Creativity and costumes encouraged, and all ages are welcome. Prizes will be awarded for best adult, child’s and team costumes. The turkeys and any other donations will go to the food pantry.
The event starts at 9 a.m. on St. Mary’s lawn and proceeds west down Main Street, turning left onto Furnace Street, continuing onto the sidewalk at Marion Avenue, then left onto Benedict Road, left onto the sidewalk along Morris Avenue (Route 9D), and returning to St. Mary’s lawn. The entire course is approximately a half mile, and the event should be completed within an hour.
Wall Street will need to be closed until the participants have exited the area.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Philipstown Food Pantry, with support from the Cold Spring Lions Club and St. Mary-in-the-Highlands Episcopal Church. The Philipstown Food Pantry is a mission of the First Presbyterian Church of Philipstown, started over 30 years ago on the pastors’ porch. It continues to be a dependable source of grocery supplies each week to those in the community who are in need of assistance. With rapidly rising food and energy prices, these are difficult times for many families.
