Helaine Ettinger to lead Jan. 24 services at St. Mary’s Parish Hall

The Philipstown Reform Synagogue (PRS) will welcome guest Rabbi Helaine Ettinger to lead Shabbat afternoon services at 4 p.m. on Jan. 24 at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Cold Spring. Ettinger, a Reform rabbi with a lot of experience working with small congregations and in Jewish education, will be leading the service with a familiar liturgy as well as some new melodies. All are welcome to attend.

Rabbi Ettinger, a graduate of Princeton University and Hebrew Union College (HUC), has served the Jewish Congregation of Kinnelon in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, and Congregation B’nai Harim in the Poconos. For a number of years she lived in Israel where she was a bar/bat mitzvah program teacher for children with disabilities.

Since 2001 she has become active in the New Jersey MetroWest Jewish community, specifically in the Jewish Health and Healing Center, the new Rimon initiative for adult learning, the Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union and Congregaton B’nai Israel in Millburn. Future plans include returning to HUC to earn a master’s degree in Jewish education.

PRS began in 2002 with the purpose of creating an inclusive venue to investigate the practice of Judaism, both intellectually and spiritually. PRS hosts monthly services and holiday events, provides religious education and offers opportunities to participate in social welfare activities. PRS can be found on the web at philipstownreformsynagogue.org and be contacted by calling 845-265-8011 or by email at [email protected].
