Mardi Gras Madness Comes to Peekskill Feb. 17–21

Buckwheat Zydeco headlines at the Paramount

The good times will roll in downtown Peekskill during Mardi Gras Madness Week presented by the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater and Go Peekskill with support from D. Bertoline & Sons distributors, happening Tuesday, Feb. 17, through Saturday, Feb. 21.

The festivities will include specials and discounts at participating Peekskill restaurants all week long, a Friday parade and pub crawl, and Buckwheat Zydeco with special guests Professor Louie and the Crowmatix capping off the week with the Mardi Gras headline show on Saturday night at the Paramount Theater.

No artist is more singularly responsible for popularizing Zydeco’s regional style with the mainstream than Buckwheat Zydeco, the pre-eminent ambassador of Louisiana’s Zydeco music. Over the course of Buckwheat Zydeco’s career, Buckwheat has gigged with everyone from Eric Clapton and U2 to the Boston Pops.

The band performed at the closing ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympics to a worldwide audience of 3 billion people and was chosen as the final musical guest for Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night TV show.

Adding a bit of local flavor to the show, Peekskill’s very own Aaron “Professor Louie” Hurtwitz will open the evening with his band, Professor Louie and the Crowmatix. The band brings an eclectic mix of world-traveled blues, rock, R&B, gospel and folk to the Paramount Hudson Valley stage.

Tickets for the concert range from $30 to $40 and are available for purchase at paramounthudsonvalley.com.
