Authorities give name as Samuel Rodriguez but no further details

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Saturday (March 28) said Samuel Rodriguez was the 67-resident of Garrison struck and killed by a bus inside the Port Authority bus terminal during evening rush hour on Thursday (March 26). He was pronounced dead at the scene but announcement of his identity was delayed until Saturday morning because of efforts to first notify his next of kin.

Rodriguez was struck on the terminal’s third level, according to a Port Authority spokesman quoted in news accounts. Police were called at 5 p.m.

The NJ transit bus was empty when the man was struck and the driver was not injured, according to authorities. The accident was said to have occurred on a ramp inside the terminal complex not typically used by pedestrians.

The Port Authority provided no details beyond Rodriguez’s name on Saturday morning.
