New York State Police report that a body was found in the Hudson River near the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on Saturday, May 23. The body was taken to the Orange County morgue where an autopsy will be performed by the Orange County medical examiner. State Police said they were assisted at the scene by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department and West Point Military Police.

The discovery raises speculation that the body may be that of 46-year-old Vincent Viafore of Poughkeepsie who went missing on April 19 after what was initially reported as a kayaking accident. His fiancée, 35-year-old Angelika Graswald, was arrested on April 29. She was indicted for second degree murder on May 13 and remains in custody in the Orange County jail with bail set at $3 million.
