Motorcyclist Seriously Injured on Route 9

Highway closed for several hours

A collision between a motorcycle and tractor-trailor on Route 9 near Stone Ridge Road on Tuesday, Oct. 20, left the motorcyclist with serious injuries, including a severed leg.

The accident occurred about 5:25 p.m. A tourniquet had already been applied to slow the victim’s blood loss when the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company responded, and he was taken by ambulance to the fire station and airlifted to the emergency room. The Continental Village Fire Department and Putnam Fire Police team also responded.

Because of the severity of the injury, Route 9 remained closed for several hours while the the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department conducted a crime-scene investigation.
