Classic play by John Steinbeck opens Nov. 6

The County Players’ performance of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men opens on Friday, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. and continues over three weekends. Subsequent performances will take place on Nov. 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 8 and 15 at 2 p.m.

Of Mice and Men follows two California migrant workers during the Great Depression — George, a sharp but uneducated, short-tempered man, and Lennie, a large but simple-minded man. Together they hope to one day acquire their own piece of land. But when Lennie stirs up trouble on the job, George must choose between protecting his friend or staying the course towards his version of the American dream.

The cast includes Bill Buttner, Kevin Gleeson, Glen Macken, Jason Michalek, Janet E. Nurre, Michael Pasquarella, Joe Prior, Jeff Wilson, Douglas Woolley and Scott Woolley.

“Nobody did more to help us understand those times than John Steinbeck,” said director Bill Peckham. “Not many people realize what a great playwright he was as well.”

Of Mice and Men is sponsored by the Poughkeepsie Public Library District and the County of Dutchess and produced in cooperation with The Poughkeepsie Read.

Tickets are $17 for adults and $14 for seniors. (The play may not be suitable for younger children.)  Call 845-298-1491 or order online.  The County Players Falls Theatre is located at 2681 W. Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
