Theater and fire academy fill quickly

Registration for summer camps offered in June, July and August by the Philipstown Recreation Department opens on Monday, March 14, for Philipstown residents and March 21 for non-residents.This year’s offerings include the popular theater productions for students entering grades 1 to 7 and the Junior Fire Academy at the Cold Spring Fire Department for grades 4 to 8.

Students in grades 1 to 3 will be performing Stories for the Stage after a week-long session of morning rehearsals. The first session runs August 1 to 5 and the second from August 8 to 12. The cost is $150 per week.

Grades 4 to 7 will be presenting the musical Mary Poppins, with direction by teen directors Harper Levy, Corydon Zousias, Jeremy Roffman, Allie Larocco, Ronan Wood-Gallagher, Jocelyn Lane and Noga Cabo and musical director Paul Heckert. The classes run from June 27 to July 21, with performances at the Philipstown Depot Theatre from July 21 to 24. The cost is $595.

Finally, grades 8 to 12 will perform the musical Damn Yankees under the direction of Katie Bissinger, vocal coach Linda Speziale and music director Heckert. Rehearsals will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. four days a week from June 27 to July 28, with performances at the Depot Theatre on July 28 to 31. The cost is $495.

The fire academy, which is free, will take place from July 25 to 29. It is open only to Philipstown residents, and 50 children may attend.
