Alvarez-Ossa lived for 35 years in Paris

The artist Juan Manual Alvarez-Ossa, a Beacon High School graduate, returns home this month to present works on canvas and paper at The Lofts at Beacon gallery. An opening reception for Of American Perceptions: Studies is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, at The Lofts.

Born in Colombia, Alvarez-Ossa emigrated with his parents and siblings to Beacon in the early 1970s. He hoped to become a diplomat. But during this third year at Marist College, he visited Paris and realized he preferred literature and art and finished his degree at the American University there. In 2014, after 35 years living in Paris, he moved to Switzerland.

The show features works created a decade ago to the present. “Ten years ago, I changed dramatically from a baroque post neo-maniériste style to a simpler style of expression,” he explained. The exhibit runs through Aug. 28. For more information, visit loftsatbeacon.com. The Lofts at Beacon gallery is located at 18 Front St.
