Josephine “Josie” Pidala, 87, a lifelong Cold Spring resident, died on July 28, 2016, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Born in Cold Spring on September 30, 1928, she was the daughter of Joseph J. and Benedetta (Giachinta) Frisenda, Sr. Her husband, Salvatore J. Pidala, Sr., died in 2003.
Josie graduated from Haldane High School in 1948. In the late 1940s she was employed by the former National Biscuit Co. and Rubber Shop in Beacon. Later, she worked as Cafeteria Manager for the Haldane Central School District until her retirement in 1991.
Josie was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto, where she served tirelessly on the activities committee. She enjoyed bowling and shopping for bargains and especially loved to cook. It warmed her heart to be able to prepare a meal for everyone who came to visit her, especially her friends after Saturday-night mass. But, first and foremost, was the love and devotion she had for her many friends and family.
She is survived by two sons, Frank S. (Anita) Pidala, Sr., of Cold Spring and Salvatore J. (Ginny) Pidala, Jr. of Nelsonville, and two daughters, Joanne (Gerard) Nocton of Kingston and Lisa (Michael) Stagliano of Plattekill.
She is also survived by a sister, Concetta Frisenda Verdile of Beacon; sisters-in-law Carol Frisenda of Fishkill, June Frisenda of Beacon and Antoinette Frisenda and Josephine “Chickie” Pidala of Cold Spring; and a brother-in-law, Anthony (Joan) Pidala of Queens. She also leaves eight grandchildren — Alicia Marie Pidala, Frank S. Pidala, Jr., Nicholas Pidala, Salvatore J. (Annette) Pidala, III, Michael (Alena) Pidala, Marisa Pidala, Patrick Nocton and Meredith (Matthew) Amato — five great grandchildren — Salvatore IV, Vincenzo, Lorenzo, Molly and Eleanor — and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers (Joseph, Anthony and Salvatore Frisenda), two sisters (Bernice DiMarco and Santa Ferrara) and an infant daughter, Bernadette Pidala.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, at Our Lady of Loretto, 24 Fair St. in Cold Spring. Interment will follow at Cold Spring Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clinton Funeral Home at the corner of Parrott and Pine streets in Cold Spring on Sunday, July 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
