Benefits River Pool at Beacon

The 13th annual Great Newburgh to Beacon Hudson River Swim will take place on Saturday, Aug. 6, to fund the operation and maintenance of the non-profit River Pool at Beacon. Registration closes at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4.

Designed for experienced swimmers, the course is about a mile, or 72 lengths of a standard 25-yard pool. Each swimmer must raise $100 in addition to a $60 registration fee ($25 for swimmers ages 10 to 17). Online registration is required; no walk-ups will be accepted. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. on the day of the event, with splash-in at about 11 a.m. Swimmers are accompanied by kayak escorts.

Swimmers must be at least 10 years old, and those under age 18 must have a certification of ability a coach or athletic director. Swimmers ages 10 to 12 must have an adult escort in the water.

The rain date is August 7. To register, volunteer on shore or as a kayak escort or make a donation to a swimmer, visit riverpool.org. The race will begin in Newburgh on Water St. between 3rd and 4th streets and finish at the Beacon Institute Dock on Red Flynn Drive.
