The Howland Library will participate in the National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read, which this year focuses on the novel Into the Beautiful North by Luís Alberto Urrea.

As part of the program, the library is hosting several events. On Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m., Debbie Lane will lead a free project for adults painting paper maché Day of the Dead skull masks. Registration is recommended by calling 845-831-1134.

On Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m., James Cotter, an English professor at Mount Saint Mary College, will lead a discussion of the book. On Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m., Marion Imperatore will discuss cultural immersion in Mexico.
