Louise Madeline Haut Gainey (1930-2016)

Louise Madeline Haut Gainey, 86, died Nov. 20, 2016, at home in Biscayne Park, Florida, after a brief struggle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 3, 1930, on Long Island, the daughter of Gustav and Bertha (Kempa) Haut. After earning an MBA from New York University, she held executive positions with a number of top advertising agencies. In 1965 she married Jacob Hill Gainey and they resided in Cold Spring, where they owned and operated the Village Deli during the 1970s. In 1977, they relocated to Miami Shores, Florida.

Louise’s passion was teaching and she was a professor at the School of Communications at The University of Miami. She retired in 2005 and moved to Oregon until 2012 before moving back to Miami Shores. She is  survived by daughter Patricia Sweeney (Dan), granddaughters Madison and Makenzie, brother Alfred Gustav Haut (Pat) and nieces Kimberly and Nicole. A celebration of her life will be held Jan. 21 at Miami Shores Community Church.

John P. Leardi (1929-2016)

John P. Leardi, 86, a lifelong resident of Peekskill, died Dec. 4, 2016. John was born in Italy on Dec. 29, 1929, to Steve and Onorina (DeThomasis) Leardi. A graduate of Peekskill High School, he served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1950 to 1954. Among his survivors is a son, Steven Leardi (Beverly) of Garrison.
