Defeat Hamilton for fourth straight Section 1 title

The Haldane varsity girls’ basketball team, seeded No. 1 among Class C schools in Section 1, defeated the No. 3 seeded Hamilton High School, 47-39, to win the sectional title and set up a rematch against Section 9 champion Pine Plains, who knocked the Blue Devils out of the tournament last season.

The Blue Devils (17-5) face Pine Plains (17-6) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, at SUNY New Paltz. The Bombers won their third District 9 title on March 3.  They reached the Class C final four in each of the past two seasons.

Haldane senior Missy Lisikatos did not play due to a knee injury on Feb. 28. Freshman Olivia McDermott started instead and contributed 10 points.

Junior Allison Chiera was named tournament MVP for the second straight year. She scored 11. Senior guard Hannah Monteleone was also named to the all-tournament team.
