Submissions due by April 3
Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney invites high school students in the Hudson Valley to submit artwork that, if selected, will be showcased in U.S. Capitol as part of the 2017 Congressional Art Competition. The deadline is Monday, April 3.
All submissions must be framed and dropped off, along with an information and release form, at Maloney’s Newburgh office at 123 Grand St. The competition is open to high school students, but exceptions may be made for schools that have 7th through 12th grades on one campus.
Contestants will compete with other students from the district and the winning student will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., in June. The winning piece will be chosen by a panel of judges in the Hudson Valley. In addition, all pieces will be posted on Maloney’s Facebook page for two weeks starting April 10. The work with the most “likes” will receive a separate award. All participants will be recognized at a reception hosted by Maloney this spring.
The grand prize winning artwork will be displayed in the Capitol for a year and the winning student and a guest will receive complimentary airfare to Washington for a reception in June. You can view last year’s entries on Maloney’s Facebook page.
