Cold Spring to Inspect Sewers

Work will be done week of April 10

The Cold Spring Village Sewer Department will clean and inspect collection mains during the week of April 10 each day between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The project will begin in the area of Cedar Street and work through the gravity sewer sections to Fair Street via Garden Street and Northern Avenue. The equipment used for the project is large and sewer manholes are typically in the center of each roadway, so temporary parking restrictions will be in place and traffic re-routed.

The following streets will be included in the project: Cedar, Locust Ridge, Orchard, B, Fishkill and Mountain avenues, segments of Parsonage and Parrott, Maple Terrace, Academy, Cherry, High, Garden and Main between Cedar and Garden.

The sewer department recommends that toilet lids be kept down along the route, as there is a potential for gurgling of water as the cleaning unit passes each building’s lateral. The unit will use the lowest pressure required to achieve the desired level of cleaning.

The purpose of the project is to assess the condition of the sewer mains and identify any sources of storm or groundwater into the sanitary sewer system.

The rehabilitation project on Fair Street and relining of sewer mains on Market, Fish and North streets scheduled for this summer are a result of conditions found in an earlier cleaning-and-inspection project.
