Joan Sablinski (1933-2017)
Joan E. Sablinski, 84, a longtime resident of Beacon, died Aug. 28, 2017.
Born June 28, 1933, in Cornwall, she was the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Downey) Braner. On April 24, 1955, she married William Sablinski, who died in 1995.
Joan worked as a dispatcher for Rogers Liquor Company in Newburgh. She was a parishioner of St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist Church, a member of the Tioronda Garden Club and on the planning committee for the Patriots Garden in Beacon.
She is survived by her children: Jeanne Millard (Jeff), Bobbi Sablinski, Bill Sablinski (Jean) and Elizabeth Sablinski; her grandchildren Marie Mansfield (Aerik), Michelle Sargis (John) and Billy Sablinski; her great grandsons Gavin Mansfield and Matthew Sargis; and her sister-in-law, Bonnie Sablinski.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Aug. 31 at St. Joachim Church, with burial at St. Joachim Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Hudson Valley Hospice (hvhospice.org).
Jerry Ticehurst
Gerald J. Ticehurst, 81, of Lavallette, New Jersey, and formerly of Beacon, died Aug. 28, 2017, at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. He moved from Beacon to Lavallette in 1987. Jerry and his wife Sandy loved their life at the beach surrounded by family and friends including his annual fishing trips with “the guys.”
Jerry was a driver for the Lewis Tompkins Hose Co. and a member of the New York State Permanent Fireman’s Association. A U.S Army veteran, he was a lifetime member of Mase Hook and Ladder and Lewis Tompkins Hose and a past trustee of Beacon Elks Lodge 1493.
He was a partner in Trans Air Land Travel Bureau in Pearl River and traveled extensively. Following his retirement, Jerry worked for Driftwood Florist and Peter’s Lavallette Florist.
Besides his wife, the former Sandy Romanelli, Jerry is survived by his brother Charles Ticehurst Jr. A gathering to celebrate his life is being planned.
