Edward Cretelli (1939-2017)

Edward Cretelli

Edward J. Cretelli, 78, a lifelong resident of Cold Spring, died on Oct. 16, 2017, at Putnam Ridge Nursing Center in Brewster.

He was born in Cold Spring on March 15, 1939, the son of Jacob and Veronica (Monroe) Cretelli. On Feb. 15, 1959, he married Rosemarie Arrigo at Our Lady of Loretto in Cold Spring.

Edward worked for IBM for 30 years at its facilities in Poughkeepsie and East Fishkill, retiring in 1992. He then took on an active role as a partner in his family’s business, C & E Paint Supply in Cold Spring.

Edward cherished his hometown and always enjoyed walking through the village and spending time along the river. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto, where he served as a parish council member for many years. He was instrumental in helping to establish the North Highlands Engine Company No.  1 and also belonged to the Cold Spring Jaycees organization. He was an avid reader and especially loved history. He’ll be remembered by all who knew him for his quick wit and dry sense of humor.

Besides his wife of 58 years, Edward is survived by his daughter, Donna Friedrich (Mike) of Fishkill; his grandchildren, Alek Friedrich of New Paltz and Emma Friedrich of Fishkill; and his sister, Diane Hattersley (Gary) of Lagrangeville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Oct. 28 at Our Lady of Loretto, 24 Fair St., in Cold Spring, with interment to follow at Cold Spring Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
