Jim Mitchell (1940-2017)

Jim Mitchell

James Mitchell, 77, a former longtime Cold Spring resident, died of cancer at his home in South Carolina.

Born June 19, 1940, he was the son of James and Eunice (Chapman) Mitchell. He was raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on his grandfather’s farm. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Jim retired after working for 37 years at the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Buchanan.

He and his wife, Linda, who survives him, lived in Cold Spring for 41 years and raised their children here. They retired to Sun City, a community near Charlotte, South Carolina.

Jim filled his days with many interests. Among them were gardening, golf, square dancing, playing pool, fishing and trying out new recipes. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. He will be remembered for many things: his Sunday morning breakfasts, his ability to fix or repair anything, his friendships, his love of travel, but most of all, for his boundless love for his family – that will be his legacy.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey Mitchell (Elizabeth); his daughter, Laura Mitchell; a granddaughter, Carly Mitchell; and a sister, Diane Yeary.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 7095 Waxhaw Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
