Alejandrina Gonzalez (1935-2018)

Alejandrina Gonzalez, 82, of Peekskill, and formerly of Beacon, died Jan. 24, 2018, at Emerald Peek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Peekskill, surrounded by her family.

Alejandrina was born July 23, 1935, in Puerto Rico, the daughter of Teodosi and Leoporda (Candelaria) Gonzalez. She married Guillermo Monzon, who died before her.

She was a dedicated Christian woman who always fed the poor. She was also devoted to her family and loved to be with them.

Alejandrina is survived by her children: Jose, Hector, Norberto, Justo, Orlando, Esther and Edith; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; and many siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 2 at St. John the Evangelist Church, in Beacon, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor.

Larry O’Brien

Larry O’Brien (1937-2018)

Lawrence M. O’Brien, 80, of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and a former president of the Southern Dutchess Country Club in Beacon, died Jan. 24, 2018, after at home surrounded by his family a long battle with cancer.

Larry was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Brooklyn, the son of Christopher and Mary (Powers) O’Brien. He graduated from Marist College and served in the U.S. Air Force before embarking on a career in sales. He owned the Osborne Inn restaurant in Fishkill and Delta Distributors, a high-end snack item company. He married Marilyn Weiss.

While living in New York, he served as president of the Southern Dutchess Country Club for two years. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 50 years.

Besides his wife of 40 years, he is survived by his children: Chris O’Brien (Bridget), Kelly Formicelli (Joe), Bridget Chirico (Jim), Kathleen O’Brien, Shawn O’Brien and Mary Sommers (Steve). He also is survived by eight grandchildren, Max and Amanda Voege, Patrick and Quinlan Canary, Brittany and Mackenzie Chirico and Jack and Lily Sommers. He is also survived by a sister, Catherine O’Brien and a brother, Bill O’Brien.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Gulf Shores, with interment at Barrancas National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice or the American Cancer Society (cancer.org).
