Billie Joe Anderson Sr.

Billie Joe Anderson Sr. (1934-2018)

Billie Joe Anderson Sr., 83, died Feb. 28, 2018 at his home in Beacon.

Born April 10, 1934, in Elba, Alabama, he was the son of Lehman Anderson and Ida (Linsey) Phillips. He worked as a cook in the dietary department at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Montrose for more than 35 years before his retirement.

Billie Joe is survived by his wife, Edith Holloman-Anderson, and his nine children: Billie Joe Anderson Jr., Katharine Anderson-Warren, Audrey Anderson, Richard Anderson, Gwendolyn Anderson, Leman Anderson, Bernice Anderson, Bonnie Jo Anderson and Kevin Battle. He also is survived by 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as his stepchildren: Shawn Brothers, June McKenley, Bridget Holloman and Lance Holloman.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 9, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Springfield Baptist Church in Beacon. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., followed by interment in the Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

Angela Gallagher (1966-2018)

Angela Gallagher, 52, of Spring Hill, Florida, died Feb. 20, 2018.

She was born Feb. 12, 1966 in Cornwall, the daughter of Lawrence and Alice Allen.

Angela will be remembered for her enjoyment of the sport of barrel racing, in which she competed and also trained others. Those who knew her best will also recall her love for all kinds of animals, roller skating, motorcycles, her husband, son, family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Patrick Gallagher, her son, Nicholas Gallagher, and her daughter, Amber Froelich. She also is survived by her stepchildren Erin Hayes (Donald) and Brian Pulliam; her mother, Alice Scholl (Richard); her siblings Christopher Allen (Heather), Sandra Pfeiffer (Tom), Howard Babb and Dottie Harrison; her granddaughter, Erica Hayes; her mother-in-law, Maria Gallagher; and her sister-in-law, Lia Gallagher.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on March 14 at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Church, 31 Willow St, Beacon, with a gathering immediately following at St. Rocco’s, 26 S. Chestnut St, Beacon.

John McCullough (1929-2018)

John J. McCullough, 88, of Beacon, died Feb. 21, 2018.

Born in Beacon on June 15, 1929, he was the son of Patrick and Reba (Carey) McCullough. He served four years in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War and later retired after 34 years at IBM in Poughkeepsie.

On Sept. 19, 1954, at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon, he married Patricia McElhany, who survives at home.

He also is survived by his children, Kathleen Rhodes (Douglas) of Arizona and David McCullough (Linchi) of California; his grandchildren, Kyle and Kevin Geisler and Tegan McCullough; his stepgrandchildren, Trevor and Cameron Rhodes; and his sister, Kathleen Vermilyea.

Funeral services will be private at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

Hazel VanTassel

Hazel VanTassel (1940-2018)

Hazel R. VanTassel, 77, of Chelsea and formerly of Beacon, died March 6, 2018, at home surrounded by her family.

Born June 18, 1940 in Peekskill,  she was the daughter of Samuel and Geradline (Curry) Conklin.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph VanTassel, and her nine children: Joseph VanTassel Jr., Lynda Schnetzler, Gary VanTassel, Michael VanTassel, Kevin VanTassel, Christine Hanson, Dawn VanTassel, Brian VanTassel and Craig VanTassel. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave., in Beacon, where a service will be offered at 7 p.m. Interment will be private.

Mary Villforth

Mary Villforth (1921-2018)

Mary Eileen Villforth, 96, a Fishkill resident since 1952, and formerly of Beacon, died Feb. 6, 2018, at the Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill.

She was born April 26, 1921, in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of John F. and Catherine (Gelchion) Morgan.

Eileen was an active parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. She was employed for many years at the Texaco Research Center in Glenham.

On June 18, 1944, she married Frederick J. Villforth Jr. in Beacon. He died in 2010.

She is survived by her children, Frederick J. Villforth III (Barbara Sparacio) of Hopewell Junction; John Paul Villforth (April) of Houston; and Mary Jane Mitchell (John Grosso) of Austin, Texas; and her grandchildren, John R. Villforth (Amanda) of Norfolk, Virginia; Mary Katherine Mitchell of Ossining and Nathaniel S. Villforth of Washington, D.C. She also is survived by her great-grandson, Evan Villforth of Norfolk; and her brothers, Raymond Morgan of Medford, New Jersey, and John Morgan (Anne) of Fishkill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, at St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. Memorial donations may be made to the Fishkill Food Pantry, 1153 Main St., Fishkill, NY 12524.
