Lynne Macgeorge

Marilyn (Lynne) J. Macgeorge, 84, of Cold Spring, died at home on March 19, 2018, surrounded by her family.

Lynne was born in 1933 in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, the eldest daughter of Ralph Lathow and Verna (Bechtel) Jones. She attended Ursinus College and graduated as a R.N. from Women’s Medical College Hospital in Philadelphia in 1954.

Volunteer and part-time work at the hospital kept her hand in nursing while raising her family, but her life’s work focused on women’s health as a nurse and site manager at Planned Parenthood in Beacon that spanned more than three decades. Her compassionate and courageous work changed many lives and helped empower the women she cared for.

Theater, art, and music were other passions of Lynne’s. She was a stage manager many times with the Children’s Theater in Poughkeepsie in the 1960s. She also enjoyed productions at County Players, many trips to Broadway shows, Tanglewood, art museums, and Vassar College’s Powerhouse Theater every summer.

She is survived by her children: Patricia Bettinger (Richard); Dean Macgeorge (Diane), Allison Sassano (Walter Sassano) and Karen Macgeorge; four grandchildren: Christopher Macgeorge, Meghan Macgeorge, Harrison Sassano, and Laurel Sassano; and one great-grandchild, Adelynn Macgeorge. She also leaves her sisters, Patricia Hottenstein, Janice Bishop and Susan Shafer.

A celebration of Lynne’s life will be held in Pennsylvania in July. Memorial donations can be made in Lynne’s name to Planned Parenthood of the Mid-Hudson Valley (plannedparenthood.org).
