Cold Spring, Beacon to celebrate with tree plantings

The City of Beacon and the Village of Cold Spring will host Arbor Day ceremonies on Friday, April 27. Both begin at 4 p.m.

In Beacon, the events take place outside the Howland Public Library at 313 Main St., where a tree will be planted, the mayor will read a proclamation and there will be poetry and music. See facebook.com.

In Cold Spring, members of the Tree Advisory Board will meet at 4 p.m. at Village Hall, 85 Main St., to guide participants over part a newly designed walking tour of street trees. A brochure and map of the entire tour, prepared by horticulturist Charles Day and designed by Black Dash Studio, will be available at Village Hall.

The walk will end at the site of a ceremonial tree planting on the northwest corner of Northern Avenue and Garden Street with schoolchildren, residents and village officials.

Cold Spring was again this year named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation and will receive the group’s Tree City Growth Award.
