Gene DiBella

Gene DiBella (1928-2018)

Eugene P. DiBella, 89, of Beacon, died May 3, 2018.

Known as Gene or Gino, he was born June 19, 1928 in New York City to Salvatore and Adele DiBella. He married Marylou Holmes, who died before him.

Gene received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Fordham University and worked as a research chemist for a number of New Jersey-based corporations. He also authored or co-authored 32 U.S. and two foreign patents in addition to teaching chemistry part-time at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford.

He is survived by his children, Patricia Kreger, Donna DiBella, Peter DiBella and James DiBella, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A funeral mass was held May 11 at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne with interment at the cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Relief Services, the American Heart Association or the American Chemical Society Scholars Program.

Stanley O’Dell

Stanley O’Dell (1933-2018)

Stanley E. O’Dell, 85, a longtime Beacon resident, died May 9, 2018.

Born April 6, 1933, in Cold Spring, he was the son of Stephen and Minnie Ellen (MeKeel) O’Dell. He graduated from Haldane Central School in 1947. On May 14, 1955, in Beacon, he married Shirley May Baxter, who survives.

Stanley proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict, from 1952 to 1958. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Beacon.

Stanley worked at Chemprene, Inc. in Beacon for 40 years, retiring as a production supervisor in 1997. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps.

Along with his wife of 63 years, he is survived by his children: Lynn Rogers (Joseph) of Poughkeepsie; Susan McNair (Terrence) of Beacon; Stanley O’Dell Jr. (Jonna) of Pennsylvania; Mark O’Dell (Christine) of Hopewell Junction. He also is survived by nine grandchildren (Steven, Joseph, Angela, Tiffany, Michael, Cassandra, Zachary, Francesca and Rebecca and 11 great-grandchildren (Steven II, Marcus, Jazmyn, David, Daniel, Samantha, Melivia, Iiya, Thea, Ariel and Darrius).

A funeral service was held May 12 at the Libby Funeral Home in Beacon, followed by interment with military honors at Fairview Cemetery.

Howie Way (1931-2018)

Howard E. “Howie” Way, 86, a longtime Beacon resident, died April 27, 2018.

Born in Sharon, Connecticut on Oct. 19, 1931, he grew up in Dover Plains and lived in Beacon for more than 40 years. He wed Dolores Buckey on July 13, 1952, before leaving to serve in the Army during the Korean war. They were married for 65 years before her death on Nov. 1, 2017.

Howie was a mechanic and for more than 20 years owned Stan & Howie’s in Beacon. He loved to bowl, play golf and spend time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Darlene Way Reinig (Chris) of Newburgh and his son, Howard Way (Lori) of Plano, Texas. He also is survived by his sister, Irene, who is the last surviving of the nine children in the family.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, May 19, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 850 Wolcott Ave., in Beacon.
