Colin Keenan (1943-2018)
Colin E. Keenan, 74, died May 26, 2018 in Wappingers Falls.
Born Oct. 8, 1943, in Beacon, he was the son of Patrick and Susan (Bradley) Keenan, who were both Irish immigrants. He married Gail E. Branson, who died this past July.
After graduating from Beacon High School, Colin served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, and later as both an Army and Air Force reservist. He retired from the New York State Corrections Department in 1999 and then worked for many years as a part-time Beacon City School District bus driver.
He is survived by his children, Sabrina Bailie (Jerry) of Poughkeepsie; John Keenan (Wendi) of Waxhaw, North Carolina; and Shawn Keenan (Jenn) of Wappingers Falls. He also is survived his brothers, Michael Keenan, Monsignor Patrick Keenan and Hugh Keenan; his sisters, Rosalea Megna (Vinny) and Sharon Wallace; a sister-in-law, Jalene Yeaple (Jimmy); his grandchildren, Aislinn and Emma Bailie; Abigail, Noelle and Isabella Keenan; Walt, Sable and Sasha Keenan; and his best friend since childhood, Clarence Heroy.
In nearly two decades driving for the BCSD, Colin was known for his decorated buses. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. As a lifelong New York Yankees fan, everything revolved around watching “the game.” The daily jumbo in the morning after meeting Bob for newspaper delivery at 4:45 a.m., scratch-offs, The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune were all a part of his daily routine.
In later years he became a staunch member of the Tom Brady fan club. Colin offered no apologies for his Dairy Queen sweet tooth, affinity to Taco Bell, and Friday night pizza & wings dinners. He was on a constant quest for what he considered “home fries.” None of us really ever knew what he was after, but he certainly did and stopped at every diner within his travels. For someone who didn’t have much skill in the kitchen, CEK trained us all well.
A memorial mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow St., in Beacon at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, with burial to follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to any veterans’ organization.
