Officer Gary Pietropaolo

Gary Pietropaulo, 29, of Fishkill, a Carmel police officer, died on June 7, 2018, at Putnam Hospital Center after a crash on Route 301. He was off-duty riding a motorcycle and was struck by a mail truck, according to police.

Gary was born in White Plains on April 2, 1989, the son of Gary and Elizabeth (Wellington) Pietropaolo. He graduated from Carmel High School in 2007, earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Marist College and then graduated from the Westchester County Police Academy in 2011. He was an officer at SUNY New Paltz before joining the Carmel department in March 2016.

He was to be married on June 15 to Jacqueline “Jaci” Krampitz.

Besides his fiancée, he is survived by his parents; two sisters, Kristin and Marial; his grandmothers, Mary Pietropaolo and Frances Wellington; his uncles, Steven, Joseph, Michael and Andrew; and his aunts, Maureen, Mary and Patricia.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Home, 418 Route 6 in Mahopac. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on June 12, at 11 a.m. at St. James the Apostle R.C. Church, 12 Gleneida Ave., in Carmel, with interment to follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
