David Nairn

David A. Nairn, 81, of Cold Spring, died at home on June 13, 2018, surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 27, 1936, the son of Andrew and Ruth Nairn. His wife, Linda  Sue Nairn, died before him.

Dave was a police officer who began his career as the Town of Philipstown constable. He was later a lieutenant with the Cold Spring Police Department and retired as chief of police after 28 years of service. He was a mentor to many local individuals who hoped to pursue a career in law enforcement. You could also often find him up on a roof pounding a nail or painting a house.

He was a member of Philipstown Masonic Lodge No. 236 and of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Dave is survived by his children: Dennis Nairn, Richard Nairn (Debra), Linda Nairn (Thomas Beneway), Janet Trent and Robert Brewer; and his stepdaughters, Sheri-Lee Vathke, Lorie Etta (Joseph) and Lee Ann Markey (Jimmy).

He also is survived by his grandchildren: Andrew Nairn, Marisa Thomas (Ben), Christopher Trent, Ian Nairn, Thomas Beneway (Krysta), Dale Beneway and Eric, Jenny, Michael, Emily, Sara, Stephanie, Joseph, Michelle, Steven; and his great-grandchildren: Jameson, Florin, Rosalia, Mason and Jiana.

Friends may call on Friday, June 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott St., in Cold Spring. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
