Cold Spring man charged with attempted robbery

Beacon police arrested a Cold Spring man on June 12 following allegations he attempted to commit a robbery while in possession of a firearm.

Kenneth R. Place, 27, of Mill Road, was arrested and charged with felony attempted robbery, felony criminal possession of a weapon and misdemeanor menacing. When police arrived at 426 Main St. at 10 a.m., the victim and witnesses were interviewed and the suspect was still at the scene.

Place was arranged at Beacon City Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on a $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

In an earlier incident, on June 10, Beacon police responded at about 10 p.m. to a report of a purse snatching on Liberty Street. Officers located a suspect, who the victim identified.

Bobby Jones III, 23, was arrested and charged with felony robbery and possession of marijuana. He was arraigned in Beacon City Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail on a $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

Welch-Vanzile

The New York State Police, meanwhile, on June 13 arrested Alexander G. Welch-Vanzile, 22, of Cortland, on felony charges of promoting prison contraband. Investigators allege that on Dec. 15, 2017,  Welch-Vanzile was found in possession of a homemade weapon while incarcerated at the Fishkill Correctional Facility.

Welch-Vanzile was arraigned at the Town of Fishkill Court and remanded back into the custody of the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
