Cultural center to host two shows

The Howland Cultural Center will host two events over the weekend as part of its Circus! @The Howland series.

On Friday, June 29, at 8 p.m. an original full-length musical work, Cirque de la Lune, will be presented with five singers accompanied by the pianist and composer of the work, Hayden Wayne.

“This is not a ‘book/musical’ show,” explained Wayne. “This is a circus of music, dance, song and clowning, an allegorical tale of a man telling his story of his own life through a series of component acts in circus metaphor, somewhat like an Aesop’s fable.”

Joining Wayne is an ensemble called Free Popcorn consisting of Kelly Ellenwood, Leah Siegel, Rhiannon Parsaca, Michael Bonanno and Rowan Parsaca. Tickets are $10.

On Sunday, July 1, at 2 p.m. the Piccolo Circus will perform present a one-ring show for all ages. The performers include hand-balancer Li Liu, an acrobat; Will Shaw, an eccentric comedy juggler; and Bob Yorburg, a magician.  Also appearing are The RitzKidz, a team of artistic balancers creating beauty on a unique tower apparatus.

Admission for adults is $15, and children are free with adult. See brownpapertickets.com.
