Betty Mae Blanchard (1937-2018)

Betty Mae Blanchard, 81, of Cold Spring, died Aug. 17, 2018, at home surrounded by her family.

Born May 9, 1937, in Silver Creek, New York, she was the daughter of Albert and Eleanor (Doncavage) Kurz. She grew up in Angola.

After graduating from Lake Shore Central High School in 1955, she went on to graduate from Sister of Charity School of Nursing in 1958. After graduation she worked at a U.S. Army hospital in Germany. In 1960, she came to work at Butterfield Hospital in Cold Spring, where she was a discharge planner until her retirement in 1993.

Following her retirement, Betty worked as a school nurse for the Peekskill School District until 1998. She loved to travel, and do many different crafts.

On June 12, 1971, Betty married Roger Blanchard at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Cold Spring.

Besides her husband of 47 years, she is survived by her stepdaughters, Julia Piraino of Westwood, New Jersey and Susan Zavoski (Daniel) of Johnstown, Iowa; her sister Marilyn Kurz of Cold Spring, her brother Edward Kurz of Webster, New York, and her grandchildren Kimberly Zavoski, Michael Piraino and James Piraino.

Friends may call Wednesday, Aug. 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott St., in Cold Spring. A graveside service will be held Aug. 23 at 3 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Silver Creek.

Eileen Duffy

Eileen Duffy (1932-2018)

Eileen M. Duffy, 86, a longtime resident of Cold Spring, died Aug. 15, 2018.

Born Feb. 5, 1932, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of Walter and Mary (Stokes) Nolan.

On Oct. 17, 1953, she married Harry H. Duffy. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished grandmother.

Along with her husband of 64 years, Eileen is survived by her four children: Maureen (Kumar), Jeanne, Kathleen and Harry (Cheryl). She also is survived by 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as a sister, Anne Wieland.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, at Our Lady of Loretto, 24 Fair St., in Cold Spring.

Tom Welch

Tom Welch (1948-2018)

Thomas D. Welch, 70, a lifelong area resident, died Aug. 5, 2018. He was a gas serviceman with Synergy in Cold Spring.

Tom was born in Peekskill on April 1, 1948, the son of Thomas D. Welch Jr. and C. Phoebe (Huestis) Welch. He graduated from Lakeland High School and served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and crabbing.

On Dec. 10, 1967, he married Linda Head at the First Presbyterian Church in Mahopac Falls. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kelly, also of Mahopac, and his sisters, Mary Lee Rizzo of Peekskill and Patricia Branan of Portland, Oregon.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 9 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac with interment at Ballard-Barrett Cemetery.
