Storm Clash with East Fishkill
The Philipstown boys’ U10 Storm got off to a fast start against the East Fishkill Extreme at Philipstown Park on Sunday, Nov. 4.
Marco DiLello led off the scoring with a quick goal. Lenny Wolfe was next to the net with the Storm’s second goal of the match. Despite excellent footwork by defender Lincoln Wayland, who deflected a solid attempt on the goal by sending the ball clear of Storm’s zone, and an impressive late save by keeper Henry Foley-Hedlund, the score at halftime was tied 2-2.
The second half of the match was fast paced, with Griffin Lucca playing a strong defensive game, keeping several potential balls out of the zone. However, the Extreme surged ahead with several goals, ultimately securing a 6-2 victory.
Force Overpowers Tough Poughkeepsie Opponent
The Philipstown boys’ U10 Force faced a skilled team from Poughkeepsie but was up for the challenge on a beautiful Sunday afternoon (Nov. 4).
The Poughkeepsie team came out hot and dominated the early action, rattling off eight of the first 10 shots on goal of the game. Goalie Tomas Simkova was up to the task, and the boys kept the game 0-0 through the first 10 minutes.
The Force turned up the heat on the offensive side about halfway through the first set on the back of Zachery Fox. Zachery has played a lot of defense and goalie this season, but was put up top to start this game and answered the coach’s call. He scored his first goal on a breakaway and followed up a few minutes later with a mid-field blast that bounced over the goalie’s head to give the team a 2-0 lead.
Lucky Bell and Anthony Bailey held the other team’s offense in check with great defensive play until Bryce Kenny placed a beautiful penalty shot in the top left corner from about 15 feet outside of the box. Lincoln McCarthy and Owen Powers netted additional goals as the Force team cruised to a 5-1 win.The Current is a nonprofit supported by its readers; please consider a year-end gift.
