Mary Katherine Kearney (1924-2018)
Mary Katherine Kearney, 94, of Sparkill, and formerly of Cold Spring, died Dec. 9, 2018.
Mary was born in Yonkers on Aug. 14, 1924, the daughter of Patrick and Margaret Treanor. She married Patrick Kearney, who died before her.
She is survived by her children: Margaret Cafarella (John), Brian Kearney, Ann Kearney, Thomas Kearney (Debbie) and Barbara Alexander (Richard), as well as eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother, Thomas Treanor.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Dec. 12 at Sacred Heart Chapel in Sparkill, with interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).
Dretha Lancaster (1926-2018)
Dretha (Dee) Lancaster, ÂÂÂÂÂ92, of Summerfield, Florida, and a longtime Garrison resident, died Dec. 2, 2018, with her family by her side.
Born Sept. 29, 1926, in Garrison, she was the daughter of Frederick and Grace (Lent) Turner. She was married in March 1946 in Peekskill to Russell Lancaster, who died in 1987.
She resided in Garrison in a country home built by her father and husband. She worked for many years as a seamstress at Skyline in Peekskill and Beacon. After living for more than 85 years in Garrison, where she a member of the Graymoor Catholic church and the Cold Spring seniors’ group, she moved to Florida the day before her 89th birthday.
She is survived by her children: Patricia Lancaster of Summerfield and Russell Lancaster (Rebecca), of Venice, Florida. She is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family intends to have a Mass said in her honor in Florida and New York.
