Newburgh man killed in drive-by

Police arrested four men on Jan. 25 after a 40-year-old Newburgh man was shot in a drive-by near Hasbrouck Street. Witnesses reported hearing nine shots.

Jermaine Cooper, 40, was hit in the lower torso and died at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital at about 2 a.m. According to police, the occupants of a SUV fired at Cooper before fleeing. After being stopped by a Town of Newburgh officer, the vehicle took off, crossing the Mid-Hudson Bridge at high speed. The men were arrested after the vehicle crashed in Poughkeepsie, where they each live.

State police are also investigating a shooting that took place at 5 p.m. on Jan. 24 at the Hudson View Park Apartments in Fishkill that involved a man who appeared to be wearing black plastic bags over his torso, legs and feet.
