Shelter use funds to renovate facility

The state awarded nearly $4.5 million in matching grants to 13 animal shelters and humane societies, including the Dutchess County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, for capital projects such as renovating kennels, improving medical facilities or building more energy efficient shelters.

The Dutchess County SPCA, which is located in Hyde Park, received $312,281 to renovate its 60-year-old facility. The Humane Society of Westchester also was awarded $500,000 to build a structure devoted to animal socialization, training and community education.
