Equestrian center will expand focus

The Topfield Equestrian Center and the Philipstown Communities That Care Coalition have partnered to offer a program to help local families affected by substance abuse. The center’s focus has been veterans and children with disabilities.

Through Topfield, families in Philipstown affected by substance abuse will be able to interact with horses at the center during exercises designed to enhance communication and relationship-building, the groups said. The family sessions are $60 each but Topfield and CTC hope to secure grants to provide partial or full scholarships.

“Substance abuse is a complex issue that has impacted many families, including my own,” said Nancy Montgomery, who represents Philipstown in the county legislature and is a member of Philipstown Community That Cares. “This program brings so much hope.”
