Earth Day on the River

Volunteers help lift the 3,000-pound main sail aboard the Clearwater during an April 22 trip on the Hudson. The sloop, which was created by Pete Seeger and others to draw attention to the environmental needs of the river, is modeled after Dutch vessels of the 18th and 19th centuries. Near the end of this sail, a storm arose with fierce winds, and the crew scrambled to quickly take down the main sail.
