Stewart E. Bowen, 87, of Nelsonville, died Sept. 22 at NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt.
He was born Jan. 11, 1937, in Baldwinsville, the son of Robert and Doris (Silkworth) Bowen. Stewart served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962, then spent four years in the reserves. He worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie from 1956 to 1992, until his retirement. He enjoyed stock car racing and country music and was a talented handyman.
He is survived by his children, Clifford Bowen, Andrew Bowen, Mary Perry (Chris), Carol Kreiss (Steve), Robert Bowen and Katherine Bowen; his grandchildren, Ashlie, John and Victoria Perry, Madeleine Maves, Emma and Grace Kreiss, and Ian and Zoe Bowen; and his sister, Margaret Stellefson (Herbert).
His wife, Frances Bowen, died in 2005. His siblings, Frances Papula, Marion Merando and Winnie Ferrusi, also died earlier.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 26 at Our Lady of Loretto in Cold Spring, followed by interment at Cold Spring Cemetery.
