The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has announced that the bridge carrying Interstate 84 eastbound over Dingle Ridge Road in Southeast, Putnam County, will be closed to traffic beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, through the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 20.

Traffic will be detoured onto Route 6 at Exit 20 in New York and diverted back onto I-84 at Exit 1 in Connecticut.

During the closure, the existing bridge will be demolished and a new bridge, which was built next to the existing structure, will be slid into place as part of a $10.2 million bridge replacement project.

Dingle Ridge Road under I-84 will close Friday and will remain closed through Tuesday evening.

Traffic impacts along the Route 6 detour and along Interstate 684 are expected to be significant. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible. More information about the project, including a time-lapse video, can be found at dot.ny.gov.
