Sloop Club launches lecture series

The Beacon Sloop Club kicks off its winter lecture series on Thursday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. with Birds of the Hudson River, presented by Alan Peterson. More than 200 breeding species call the river home and play a vital role in its ecosystem.

Peterson, a lifelong birder, as well as a zoologist and veterinarian, will discuss birds in need of protection and the success stories of bald eagles and other birds that have come back from threatened status.

The event is free and takes place at the Sloop Clubhouse on the riverfront across from the Beacon train station. See beaconsloopclub.org.
